Technicals

How we Refurbish Our Cameras

All of our cameras undergo extensive refurbishments before they’re offered for sale. Each body is carefully inspected for corrosion, rust, lubrication issues, stiffness, and other mechanical concerns. When needed and possible we perform a cleaning, lubricate and adjust mechanisms, and ensure every moving part is properly working.

If a camera is marked CLA, it means our technicians were able to service it fully to factory standards - cleaned, lubricated, and adjusted for peak performance.

Refurbished cameras are serviced to perform nearly like new, just shy of a full CLA due to limited parts, but every bit as dependable in real-world use.

Where needed, wires are re-soldered, and electronic circuits go through a electronic systems evaluation to confirm they meet standards.

We also complete light seal replacements to prevent light leaks and preserve image quality. Lenses are checked for fungus, mold, haze, and impairing scratches, and our lens technician performs full CLAs when necessary. Aperture blades are guaranteed to move smoothly, free of oil or debris, and calibrated for precise operation.

From top to bottom, every camera we sell is restored with care to ensure it performs beautifully and lasts for years to come.

Grading

We offer two cosmetic grades for some of our refurbished cameras: A Grade and B Grade.

Every camera we sell is fully refurbished and mechanically reliable. The difference comes down to appearance. A Grade cameras are in excellent cosmetic condition, while B Grade models may show light cosmetic wear such as small scratches, minor dings, or faint rust spots that cannot be removed. These marks are never excessive and do not affect function.

Because of these surface imperfections, B Grade cameras are offered at a discounted price. Any cameras with heavier cosmetic damage are not listed for sale online—they’re reserved for flea markets or used for parts.

Even at the B Grade level, you can expect a camera that meets our high standards of quality and performance.
