Visit our NYC Store! 855 Grand St Brooklyn
Open Everyday 11am-8pm
Brooklyn Film Camera is hiring a Store Manager for our 855 Grand Street location. This is an in-person, working leadership role we want to grow. You will be our Store Manager who also works the floor as a clerk, leading by example. You'll do the full clerk job, and on top of that you're responsible for the showroom floor, the team, and the standard everyone works to. The goal is that the store runs without ownership in the day-to-day. The clerks report to you, you make the schedule, and you report to the owner and head of operations. This role requires someone who will take real pride in the business and is genuinely invested in it. We want someone who actively looks for ways to make it better, cleaner, and more appealing, with the goal of improving the customer experience and growing revenue.
Responsibilities
- Greet and help customers, ring up sales, and handle in-store pickups, film drop-offs, and the rest of the front-of-house work
- Know the full product line — cameras, film, developing, repairs, and the Expired Film Club — and confidently explain and demonstrate every camera we sell (we'll train you to fill any gaps)
- Convert browsers into buyers, upsell, and actively promote developing memberships, repairs, and the Expired Film Club
- Run solo shifts: open and/or close and handle the whole store on your own
- Manage the clerk team day to day; they report to you, and you're the first point of contact for floor questions and staff issues
- Set the standard for how the floor runs and how clerks conduct themselves — by doing the work yourself — and train and hold the team to it, addressing issues directly
- Build and manage the shift schedule and ensure every shift is covered
- Keep the showroom clean, organized, and well-stocked — cases and shelves straight, film fridge full, nothing out of place at the POS or on the floor
- Keep the backyard clean and the deck swept
- Make and update price tags, menus, and signage as needed
- Proactively look for ways to make the space cleaner and more appealing rather than waiting to be told
- Take in-store revenue seriously and actively work to grow it (strong performance can lead to bonuses and raises)
- Bring ideas for the floor, customer experience, online reviews, and the business — and take the lead on making them real
- Weekly check-ins with ownership to flag opportunities and issues; otherwise run the store independently
Requirements
- Experience managing a retail store and leading a team on a retail floor
- Comfortable building schedules, setting and enforcing standards, and handling staff issues directly
Nice to Have
- Camera or film knowledge is a plus, but not required.
- A real interest in film photography and a willingness to learn.
