About 35mm Analog Cameras
Is it worth buying a film camera?
Yes, if you like slowing down and want a look that is hard to fake: real grain, soft highlight roll-off and colors set by the film stock you choose. Each roll costs money, so you think before you shoot. A refurbished camera also holds its value well if you decide to sell it later.
Which 35mm camera is best for a beginner?
Two good starts: a manual SLR like the Pentax K1000 or Canon AE-1 Program teaches you exposure and takes swappable lenses. A point-and-shoot like the Olympus Stylus sets focus and exposure for you, so you just frame and press. Our beginner's guide compares seven picks.
How much does a good 35mm film camera cost?
On our shelf right now, refurbished point-and-shoots start at about $225 and most cost $240–$500, with the Contax T2 at $2,300. SLRs like the Pentax K1000 and Canon AE-1 run about $380–$550. Leica rangefinder kits run into the thousands. Our price guide explains every category.
Can you still buy 35mm film?
Yes. Kodak, Ilford and Fujifilm still make 35mm film, CineStill sells its own stocks, and we stock color, black and white and slide film. When the roll is done, our Brooklyn lab develops and scans it for $18 a roll. Drop it off at 855 Grand Street or mail it in.
What do you check, and what warranty do I get?
We check shutter speeds, light seals, the meter, film wind and focus on every camera before it is listed. 35mm SLRs and rangefinders come with a 6-month warranty; point-and-shoots come with 3 months. You can return a camera within 14 days with no restocking fee.

Why buy from us, not eBay
How we service every camera.
Every camera in our shop — SLR, rangefinder, medium format, TLR, point & shoot — is refurbished in our shop before it goes on the shelf.
01
Past the surface
Most resellers clean the outside and call it done. Our techs go further: full internal service, part replacement where needed, and recalibration to factory tolerances.
02
A real repair department
Cameras come in broken and leave shooting. That's the entire job, and it's what our techs do every day.
03
Verified, not assumed
Shutter speeds, meter accuracy, and focus calibration all get checked against professional test equipment and factory specs.
04
Warranties on every camera, extended options available
Standard coverage runs three to six months depending on the category. Want longer? We offer extended warranties at checkout. Something goes wrong, bring it back.
Our service process
5 stepsThe specifics vary by camera type, but the principle is the same: nothing goes on the shelf until it is ready to shoot.
Step 01
Full intake
Body opened, mechanics checked, condition logged before any work starts.
Step 02
Service the system
Each camera gets what it needs, mechanical or electronic, to run the way it was built to.
Step 03
Dial it in
Shutter speeds, meter accuracy, and focus all checked on professional gear.
Step 04
Replace worn parts
Wear parts replaced as needed — what gets swapped depends on the camera.
Step 05
Second tech signs off
Every camera is checked by a second technician before it ships. Warranty card issued.
Risk, removed
If something is wrong, we fix it.
Every camera ships with a real warranty, not a fine print return window. If it stops working we will fix or replace it. We offer affordable extended warranties as well.
