Super 8

It's the season for videos. Golden hour rooftop hangs, cross-country drives, backyard barbecues.

Every camera on this page is fully restored, calibrated on professional bench equipment, and backed by a six-month warranty.

Every camera, restored in-house

How we restore every Super 8

Every camera passes through our bench before it reaches yours. No shortcuts, no vague 'cleaned and tested' language — here's exactly what that means.

01

Teardown & inspection

Every camera comes fully apart. We inspect the mechanism, electronics, and optics under magnification before a single part goes back in.

02

Mechanical service

Worn gears, dried lubricants, and aged light seals — all replaced. Motors and shutters are re-oiled with the correct solvents for vintage tolerances.

03

Calibration on the bench

Shutter speeds verified against professional test equipment. Film transport timing confirmed under load. Meter accuracy checked where applicable.

04

Warranty & ship

Every camera leaves with a six-month warranty. Questions, issues, hiccups — we're here for the full ride, not just the checkout.

Good to know

Common questions, answered.

Something we didn't cover? Ask us directly.

How long does one cartridge run?

A standard Super 8 cartridge (50 ft) gets you about 3 minutes and 20 seconds at 18 fps, or 2 minutes 30 at 24 fps. Plan your shots accordingly — a roll disappears faster than you think.

What film should I start with?

For outdoors and daylight, 50D is sharp and beautifully saturated. For indoors or low light, 500T is forgiving and handles mixed lighting well. B&W? Tri-X is the classic — high contrast, full sun.

Do I need a light meter?

For most Super 8 cameras, no. The cartridge itself tells the camera the film speed, and the built-in auto-exposure reads the light and sets the aperture. Some cameras allow manual override if you want creative control.

What if something's off with my camera?

Every camera comes with a six-month warranty. If something isn't right, email repairs@brooklynfilmcamera.com or bring it back to the shop and we'll get it sorted.
