About Leica
Why are Leica cameras so expensive?
Leica builds its cameras largely by hand, with brass top and base plates, and its lenses are among the sharpest ever made. Supply of old film models is fixed, and collectors keep demand high. Prices hold well, so many owners sell for close to what they paid. See our price guide.
How much does a Leica film camera cost?
Is a used Leica worth buying?
It can be, if it has been serviced. A Leica made in the 1950s or 60s needs a CLA (clean, lubricate, adjust) to be accurate. Ours have had one, and we check shutter speeds, light seals, the meter, film wind and focus. Browse our other rangefinders too.
Where are Leica cameras made?
Leica is a German company based in Wetzlar. The M2, M3 and M4 film cameras were built in Germany in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Leica still sells new film cameras, such as the M6 reissue. If an old one needs work later, our repair service can help.
